Course Description

This course provides in-depth training in the art and science of painting and surface finishing. Trainees will learn essential techniques in decorative painting, industrial coatings, wall design, and the chemical properties of paint. Emphasis is placed on both traditional and modern practices using tools, textures, and color combinations. This course is ideal for individuals looking to become professional painters, surface finishers, or entrepreneurs in the decorative and building industry.


Pre-Course Requirements & Target Group

This course is open to individuals aged 18 and above who are physically fit and willing to engage in practical work. It is ideal for artisans, construction workers, school leavers, OND/HND holders, building technicians, and anyone with an interest in interior and exterior design finishes.

6 Weeks | Monday – Friday: 9:00am – 3:00pm

Mode of Delivery

  • Practical, hands-on sessions using professional painting tools

  • Use of PowerPoint presentations and wall samples for visual learning

  • Instructor-led demonstrations and step-by-step practical tasks

  • Group work and individual painting projects

  • Video analysis and color psychology tutorials


Learning Objectives

Upon completing the course, trainees will:

  • Understand different types of paints, primers, and finishes

  • Learn surface preparation and treatment techniques

  • Mix and apply decorative and industrial coatings

  • Use painting tools such as rollers, sprayers, brushes, and scrapers

  • Execute creative wall finishes (POP, marble, texture, stucco, etc.)

  • Calculate paint quantity, estimate jobs, and price services

  • Adhere to safety standards in paint handling and application

  • Launch their own painting and interior finish businesses

  • Introduction to Paints: Types, Finishes & Formulations

  • Surface Preparation: Filling, Sanding, Cleaning, and Priming

  • Use of Brushes, Rollers, Sprayers & Other Application Tools

  • Paint Mixing and Color Matching Techniques

  • Interior/Exterior Wall Painting and Ceiling Finishing

  • Decorative Effects: Stucco, Marble Effect, Textures, POP Painting

  • Safety Precautions and Use of PPE

  • Estimating Paint Quantity and Pricing Paint Jobs

  • Customer Relations and Job Supervision

  • Entrepreneurship in the Paint Industry


Assessment

  • Daily performance-based practical assessments

  • Group painting projects and decorative finish demonstration

  • Written multiple-choice exam on paint knowledge and safety


Certificate

On completion, learners will receive a Santify Certificate.
(Equips graduates for self-employment or work in building and decoration firms)
